A LOSE AND BIG WIN

The Spartans hosted the Ville Marie Pirates yesterday and were looking to extended their win streak to 9 and their undefeated streak at home to 12 games. The Spartans started strong out of the gate and ended the first period with a 3-0 lead over the Pirates.

The second period saw the Spartans on the power play for over 5 minutes straight, but they could not take advantage of this and surrendered two goals. With the score 3-2 Labrosse scored on a break away, however the referee did not see it this way and the Pirates took the puck the other way and tied the game at 3 heading into the third. The Pirates started the 3rd period on the power play and converted on a deflected point shot to take a 4-3 lead. The Spartans struggled to get momentum in the 3rd as they were short handed a number of times.

The Spartans did make a push, but it was not enough as the Pirates battled hard and took the very important two points in the standings. The Spartans carried a lot of the play, but numerous mistakes by the Spartans and 60 minutes of hard work by the Pirates was the difference.

The Spartans have a hard week of practice before back to back home games this weekend vs the Meaford Knights Friday and the Seguin Huskies Saturday.

Despite the loss yesterday the Spartans made a far bigger impact off the ice for Murray James. Murray was the Spartans special guest yesterday as he got to watch the game, receive an autographed stick from the team and have his picture taken with the entire team afterwards. Murray is a special little guy that is a tremendous example to all of us about what true adversity and courage is.

He is a real hero to our players. The Spartans organization will be be sponsoring Murray this Christmas so that he can have an amazing Christmas.
