The Niagara Whalers split the season opening series against their newest territorial rival; the Niagara-on-the-Lake Nationals. The Whalers skated to a 5:3 victory in the first match on home ice, but dropped the second game in NOTL 6:4 final.

Kurt Villani and Bryce Martin are tied for the club's point lead through the early going. Both players have four points in two games, each registering a goal and three assists.

The organization is thrilled with the group put together this summer. Although younger than previous years, Niagara has some great young hockey prospects that they will be developing this season.

The Whalers now have a extended break to practice. The next match is not until September 21st, where they will host the Toronto Predators on home ice.
